What:
Florida Reading Tutoring Program for K-3 Students An opportunity for high school students to tutor K-3 students on improving literacy skills and instilling a love of reading! Who:
Rising juniors & seniors with at least a cumulative 3.0 GPA, no out of school suspensions/expulsions, and on track to graduate When: Beginning in the 2022 23 school year after school Where: Deep Creek Elementary, East Elementary, Kingsway Elementary, Liberty Elementary, Meadow Park Elementary, Myakka River Elementary, Neil Armstrong Elementary, Peace River Elementary, Sallie Jones Elementary, & Vineland Elementary
Tutors will work for
- up to 8 hours a week and will choose one of the following options
- Will be paid an hourly rate of $15.00
- Will volunteer and receive service hours documented in writing, signed by the student,the student’s parent or guardian, and administrator of the school where the tutoring occurred. These hours may be counted toward meeting community service requirements for high school graduation and participation in the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program.
- Tutoring sessions may occur Mon - Thurs. for 2 hours each day.
How: Interested tutors will be able to apply beginning in November 2022.
Requirements:
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Rising juniors & seniors with no suspensions or expulsions
- Drug Testing & Finger Printing (Costs covered by CCPS)
- Complete CCPS HR Training Videos (Will be paid up to 5 hours)
- Resumé (uploaded during application process)
- 2 letters of recommendation from present or past high school teachers of record,club or activity sponsors, coaches, or administrators (uploaded during application process)
Responsibilities:
- Student tutors must attend required training(s) on tutoring program procedures (Will be paid)
- Consistently show up for scheduled tutoring times with appropriate dress and conduct for a school environment
- Use provided curriculum resources and strategies to plan and implement tutoring program
- Students will tutor 1-3 students at a time
- Follow the direction and guidance of the tutoring coordinator at the school site
