Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Passing score on ParaPro exam, or at least 60 semester hours of college credit.
Certificates, Licenses, & Registrations:
- Current Lifeguard certification, updated as needed
Preferred Qualifications:
- Successful experience working with children with disabilities
- Experience in adaptive swim or swim instruction

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following statements of duties and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. These statements are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of all personnel within this position.
- Assists the PE/Swim Instructor in implementing and facilitating developmentally appropriate student engagement in learning.
- Assists the PE/Swim Instructor with the opening and closing of the pool daily when in use, to include: removing and replacing the pool cover, checking the pool and pool deck prior to each class to ensure conditions are appropriate for students to enter the water and monitoring the weather.
- Assists the PE/Swim Instructor with maintaining the cleanliness and safety of aquatic facilities including the pool deck, and the storage and monitoring of student safety equipment.
- Responds to any and all emergencies, rescues swimmers in distress utilizing appropriate rescue techniques.
- Maintains attention on students at all times.
- Keeps rescue equipment like lifebuoys and first aid kits readily accessible and in good condition.
- Update school staff on any incidents or safety concerns and inform administration when necessary.
- Set out and put away equipment at the start and end of a lesson if necessary.
- Maintain communication with all staff on the pool deck and work as part of a team to ensure safety.
- Observe all points in pool and hazard areas.
- Participates actively in student activities in the classroom in the swimming pool, and in play areas.
- Monitors students/swimmers visually and audibly in and around the swimming pool.
- Assists with implementing IEP, 504, LEP, BIP, and other learning plans as developed.
- Practices positive child-behavior techniques and behavioral interventions in the classroom/pool area.
- Participates in professional growth activities appropriate to the position.
- Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of concepts and skills initially introduced by the teacher.
- Assists with meeting basic needs of students as required, such as diapering, lifting, tube feeding, catheters, with proper training.
- Assists the students in developing study skills and self-help skills, such as dressing, toilet training, eating, health, safety, and hygiene.
- Assists with students’ mobility in and around the classroom, school, swimming pool, and play areas.
- Develops and maintains a clean, safe, healthy, and developmentally appropriate environment.
- Keeps accurate student records as directed by the teacher.
- 22. Communicates with supervising staff to assist with evaluating student progress and/or implementing objectives in the Paraprofessional (Swim Monitor) classroom and related activities.
- Administers and proctors formative, summative, and standardized assessments as directed by the teacher.
- Facilitates transition of students.
- Attends scheduled trainings as necessary.
- Provides training and guidance for staff, parents, and volunteers as directed.
- Performs assigned duties related to student safety on campus (i.e. bus duty, parent pickup, walkway safety, playground, lunchroom duty, swimming pool, field trips).
- Provides assistance in the use of technology and troubleshooting equipment.
- Adheres to ethical behavior and decision making; complies with laws and policies concerning confidentiality of student information.
- Substitutes for the classroom teacher when called upon by the building principal.
- Performs other duties related to the job goal of the position.
