Qualifications:
- Ability to perform work requiring physical strength and endurance
- Ability to withstand exposure to variable weather conditions
- Ability to work at heights from a ladder, scaffolding, or mechanical lift
- Mastery of journeyman level skill in the use of the tools, materials and equipment of the electrical trade
- Knowledge of the national electric code and the national fire protection association code
- Three (3) years or more of progressive experience in the trade.
- Ability to plan and organize detail of assignments, read and understand blueprints, diagrams, and manuals
- Ability to troubleshoot, determine causes of routine malfunctions, and take necessary corrective measures
- Completion of a technical program related to the trade at a vocational school, college, military training program or completion of an apprenticeship program
- Holds a valid Florida driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Two (2) years of experience in the public-school environment
*Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Observes all safe work practices when using tools, equipment and chemicals.
- Works effectively with, cooperates with, and supports other employees.
- Uses district electronic work order system to perform work orders with minimal supervision.
- Repairs, maintains, and prescribes safe conditions of all lighting fixtures, electrical apparatus, fixtures, kitchen equipment, and all electrical elements in the facilities operated by the school board.
- Advises maintenance manager if a work order or repair should be performed by outside contractors based on scope of work, materials required, or personal experience.
- Attends formal and informal training sessions on new equipment and related items pertaining to trade or department.
- Consults and follows the National Electrical Code.
- Recommends supplies and equipment for purchase.
- Provides advice and recommendation to supervisor regarding preferred repair materials and carried inventory.
- Maintains school board owned tools, equipment, and truck inventory.
- Examines and maintains electrical components in district-operated facilities on a regular basis for the purpose of preventive maintenance.
- Assists supervisor with the training of new employees.
- Performs other job-related functions as may be assigned.
